Green is Hot

BullseyeGreen is the new black. Environmental topics have become very popular lately. It’s everywhere you turn, which I think is great. The more attention these issues get, the more they will move to the front of our consciousness.

The green blogosphere is one that is constantly growing. The Carnival of the Green is published each week to highlight posts from green blogs around the world. This week is was located at the Animal Broadcast Network.

BusinessWeek has been doing a series of podcasts focusing on green blogs. The latest podcast features CityHippy’s Al Tepper, who was kind enough to mention greenerMIAMI. Previous podcasts in the series featured interviews with Gristmill founder Dave Roberts, and Treehugger’s Graham Hill.

greenerMIAMI keeps a Green Blogroll that is updated frequently with eco-blogs as we find them. The link is available through our Green Resources section in the sidebar. Check them out!

Carnival of the Green #28

This week’s Carnival of the Green is up at Website Design and Promotion. Highlights:

PvcThe Worsted Witch talks about vinyl/PVC, a topic I’ve been wanting to hit on/research for ages.

The Practical Environmentalist points us to this BusinessWeek article about the myths & realities of Ethanol. Another topic I’ve been wanting to discuss, with all of these Live Green, Go Yellow commercials.

InctruthNicomachus posts on the Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore’s movie that I am very interested in seeing. (We mentioned it just last week on our Green Celebrities post.)

Carnival of the Green #22

Carnival_2  This week’s Carnival of the Green is hosted by scalarparty.

This week you’ll find a review of the Weather Makers (book on global warming), which I have now requested from Miami Dade Public Library…they have lots of copies!

The Worsted Witch explains how sustainable fabrics (organic, etc.) are made.

Commonground leads us to a fun one that’s been mentioned in quite a few green blogs this week: Environmentalists use the Chevy Tahoe online "commercial-maker" to create a stir.

Fellow Floridian Harlan over at Greener Magazine explains how the Haz-to-Go hazardous waste disposal works in Pinellas County. I think this might lead me to a best practice study, because they have some really cool resources and events on their site.

Check out the entire Carnival!

Carnival of the Green #21

Cotg Today’s Carnival of the Green is located at GreenThinkers.

Powering Down has a long but interesting post about agriculture & petroleum. Suggestions at end of the article: educate yourself (on issues, don’t just listen to what people tell you), grow your own food, start a community garden, support local farmers, and don’t rely on others to provide you with your basic needs.

Simply in Season is a blog I hadn’t seen yet, promoting eating local food in season. I’d love to hear from readers on this…it is an interest of mine that I’m not sure if I share with other Miamians.

We are pointed to the downsides of bamboo, a traditionally very "green" resource, by commonground.

I was really disappointed to find out that a couple of Floridians shot two hawks last week because they were bothering the golf course residents.

These are just a few of the entries, you can see all of them here.

Carnival of the Green #20

This week’s Carnival is located at GreenerMagazine, which I just realized is a Florida-based blog. I particularly recommend EcoStreet’s How to Green Your Life. This global warming piece was also particularly funny, pointing out that one positive aspect: the likelihood of having a hurricane named after you is now significantly higher.

But as usual, there are lots of great entries, so feel free to check them all out.

Carnival of the Green #19

Stuffed20aniI got so distracted by trash and transit this week that I haven’t had a chance to post this week’s Carnival of the Green! It’s over at Baloghblog, and it was a good one! They were even nice enough to give GreenerMiami the "big fluffy stuffed animal prize" for the Week of Trash series. That makes the embarrassment of showing photos of my decaying garbage all worth it!

Highlights include Groovy Green’s cool link to a video on some people who figured out how to grow plants & trees in the desert region next to the Dead Sea. Sustainablog tells us how to turn our kids into Treehuggers. Jon Swift contributes an incredible satirical post on Global Warming. I found it very "a la Daily Show", which I love. GreenThinkers talks about a bicycle lending program in Denmark that I think is a great Biz Idea and will highlight again soon.
