Miami Dade received a couple of hybrid buses on loan for about a month…which is probably ending soon. I headed down south to the busway (where the Metrorail ends @ Dadeland South), to try and catch a glimpse. No dice.
Larry Lebowitz writes:
Transit plans to purchase 39 of the 60-foot hybrids by 2008 and 180 of the 42-foot models between 2009 and 2012 as part of its routine fleet replacement program, said Harpal Kapoor, transit’s deputy director of operations.
…
Bus hybrids have also won points with environmentalists because they markedly reduce the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions that are common with straight diesel-burning vehicles.
That’s right! They win points with me! Now all they need to do is fill them up with vegetable oil instead of regular diesel and I will hand over my first child*.
*Not really, that’s just a saying!

Glad to know that I’m not the only fool looking for them around town…
I happened to see one down by the falls. Gave me a little thrill. I’m originally from California and held little hope for Miami doing anything green after living here 13 years. Now I found this site – things are looking up!
