Hybrid Buses – Anyone Seen?

HybridbusMiami Dade received a couple of hybrid buses on loan for about a month…which is probably ending soon. I headed down south to the busway (where the Metrorail ends @ Dadeland South), to try and catch a glimpse. No dice.

Larry Lebowitz writes:

Transit plans to purchase 39 of the 60-foot hybrids by 2008 and 180 of the 42-foot models between 2009 and 2012 as part of its routine fleet replacement program, said Harpal Kapoor, transit’s deputy director of operations.

Bus hybrids have also won points with environmentalists because they markedly reduce the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions that are common with straight diesel-burning vehicles.

That’s right! They win points with me! Now all they need to do is fill them up with vegetable oil instead of regular diesel and I will hand over my first child*.

Watch the channel 4 newscast.

*Not really, that’s just a saying!

  1. Glad to know that I’m not the only fool looking for them around town…

  2. I happened to see one down by the falls. Gave me a little thrill. I’m originally from California and held little hope for Miami doing anything green after living here 13 years. Now I found this site – things are looking up!
