Red Carpet, Green Cars

Redcarpet This Sunday evening, many Americans will plop down in front of their TVs to watch the Oscars…or at the very least, the Red Carpet.

This year marks the 4th annual "Red Carpet, Green Cars" – where eco-minded celebrities team up with Global Green USA and hybrid cars, to make a statement and a difference.

GreenerMiami applauds everyone arriving to the event in style, and in a green car. The traffic and idling on days like the Oscars is an extra reason to do the right thing.

And as for another Biz Idea for Miami, we’ve got plenty of big Latino and other events happening here – why not offer a way for Miami VIPs to arrive "green"? Or even a "green" taxi company?

You can catch the Oscars Sunday on ABC at 8pm ET, with Red Carpet starting at 5:30pm on E!

And don’t forget what Chili Palmer says in regards to his hybrid, "If you’re important, people will wait".

  1. Latino events, great idea! I think it may address a cultural divide here. I remember in prep school in New England and even working/living in affluent neighborhoods in New York, LA and DC it seems that a mark of affluence is to drive safe, environmentally friendly cars. (That is not to say these folk were socially responsible in other ways; usually they were hypocrites.) So environmentalism is part of conspicuous consumption among many upper middle class Americans. In Miami where there are so many immigrants, I believe the idea of such nuanced conspicuous consumption has not sunk in. Supersized trucks and loud engined sports cars (with the AC blasting at all times) is what many folk aspire to if they can afford it. (All of this seems somehow related to the McMansion vs. Historic Preservation/ Environmentally responsive housing debate.)
