Freecycle

Freecycle I hope that I’m preaching to the choir here and everyone has already heard of Freecycle, but just in case…

Freecycle is a group that works under the idea that "One person’s trash is another person’s treasure." Freecycle consists of local groups with free membership that allow people to publicize an item that they no longer want, to give to someone else that may need it.

I give stuff through Freecycle sometimes, and other times to Goodwill. How do I decide? I usually offer up stuff that’s in really good condition and a little more valuable than just some pants that don’t fit anymore, to Freecycle. Other smaller items I save up and bring to Goodwill.

Things I have given through Freecycle: 1 large fan, 1 desk fan, 2 acrylic office chair mats. People email you to ask for the items. You can choose whoever you want to give them to. Arrange a time, and they pick it up. Simple.

Freecycle Miami (Yahoo group that you must join) currently has the following items offered: Tall dresser, books, baby stuff, exasaucer seat, big bag of stuffed animals, mid-sized entertainment center, black cubby bench with 3 storage compartments, coffee table, and more.

Freecycle is a great way to give and receive items that keeps things out of the trash and gives them a new life. I also find that it is nice to know that someone is really going to get use out of something that I no longer need.

  1. Fantastic idea! Would be good to spread the word to local social non-profits.

  6. Kitten Needs Home!
I live in North Miami Beach and I’ve been watching a 4-6 month old kitten roaming around my neighborhood for the last week or so and tonight I decided to take him/her in, give him/her a bath, and now I’m going to try and find the kitten a much nicer home then he/she has while living on the streets.
Extremely cute, very affectionate and playful kitten.
Please email me for pictures or more information at adb1285@aol.com
****My fiance is ALLERGIC to cats****
But he has agreed to be kicked out of the room to sleep on the couch with our dogs while I try to find the kitten a home…..please don’t make me suffer for too long while I listen to him complain about being itchy….take this kitten home with you :)

  7. My garden is ready but I need seeds or plants. I am interested to get seeds, or plants of the following: lemon, acerola (Malpighia punicifolia a.k.a. Barbados Cherry), star anise, banana, plantains, and any other that you would recommend. In my garden I have a section to plant in plain sun, partial shade, or shade. I live in North Florida but that is not an impediment to have tropical and exotic plants here. In my garden I have citrus trees, and a soursop tree (Spanish guanĂ¡bana, Portuguese graviola, Annona muricata) that was not suppose to resist the weather here, and the fruits that I harvested are tasteful.

I just heard of Freecycle and I think this is GREAT! I am in search of any baby items. I know of 2 young ladies; 1 who had a baby boy 8 days ago and 1 who is 6 months pregnant. They are in need of any baby items; such as bassinet, stroller/carrier-car seat, clothing, etc. They are in WPB and I am in Miami. I am willing to pick up the items for them. I’m not too familiar with how this works.. so please let me know! Thanx :)
