More on GreenerMiami: What, Why & How

This will be my first official post, as the others had been previously written. As I previously stated, this blog was kind of inspired by trash – but my mind has since wandered to cover all sorts of interesting and "green" topics. I’ll mention them here, and from here on out hope to start with normal day to day posts.

I want to make it easier to do the right thing.

I guess if I had to sum it up, that would be what I’m trying to accomplish. I’m interested in education – of myself and other consumers, as well as business and government.

I decided to call the site "GreenerMiami" because I want to work towards a Greener Miami. To the the "-er" add to the Green makes a difference. Last year I read some great advice on Treehugger (my "idol" site) – not every "green" solution is perfect – but most of them are fantastic steps in the right direction. The purpose here is not to criticize people trying to make a difference, because through imperfect solutions we learn. So I hope that each day we can make Miami a bit of a Greener place to be.

I also decided to go ahead and focus on Miami, and although I hope I will have readers from across the globe, I believe that my best impact will be achieved locally. Some of the information that I will provide and talk about on the site will be specific to Miami readers, while a lot of it will hopefully be useful to all.

Expect topics such as (in no particular order): product packaging, socially responsibly companies, eco-assessment of homes, e-waste & recycling, life cycle of a piece of trash, recycling, reduce waste in business, solar/alternative power, biodiesel, composting, community gardening, food co-ops, reusing, sustainable wood, cleaning without chemicals, product labeling, waste water, conservation, green architecture / design, PVC, organic agriculture, public transportation, and more!

I encourage reader participation. I’d love to be contacted by anyone and everyone with something to say, with projects or ideas, etc.

Saludos and here’s hoping this project goes well!
